Introduction to Mass Communication
Mass communication
Mass communication is the process of creating, sending, receiving, and analysing messages to a large audience, through various forms of media such as television, radio, newspapers, and the internet. It involves the distribution of information on a broad scale to a wide range of people, often simultaneously, and plays a critical role in shaping public opinion, disseminating culture, and providing news and entertainment.
Why we have this course and how it is going to help students in future
We have chosen to offer a Mass Communication course to ninth-grade students because:
- Understanding mass communication is essential in today’s information-rich world. It helps students grasp how different media work and how information is disseminated on a large scale.
- The course will introduce students to various media platforms such as television, radio, newspapers, and digital media. They'll learn about the roles these platforms play in daily life, for instance, how news shapes public opinion or how advertising influences consumer behaviour.
- Students will also explore the basics of creating media messages, from writing news articles to producing simple videos. This will enhance their communication skills and spark creativity.
- Learning about mass communication encourages students to think critically about the media they consume, helping them become informed viewers and listeners who understand the difference between biassed and unbiased information.
- The skills acquired in this course are broadly applicable, useful not only for those interested in careers in journalism or media but also in any field that requires strong communication and analytical skills.
- Ultimately, this course aims to make students more aware of the world around them, teaching them to interact with media in a more thoughtful and effective manner.
