Moral Ethics & Character Building

Ethics and moral

Ethics and morals are principles that govern behaviour, defining what is right and wrong. Ethics often refers to the rules provided by an external source, such as codes of conduct in workplaces or professions. Morals refer to an individual's own principles regarding right and wrong.

Why we have this course and how it is going to help students in future

We have chosen to teach ethics and morals to fifth-grade students for the following reasons:

  • Foundational Age: Fifth graders are at a pivotal age where they can grasp complex concepts like right and wrong, making it an ideal time to introduce ethical and moral reasoning.
  • Developing Decision-Making Skills: This course helps students learn how to make thoughtful decisions. For instance, they'll explore whether to keep something they found or try to return it to its owner, teaching them the value of honesty.
  • Impact on Future Behavior: Learning about ethics and morals at this stage sets a foundation for lifelong behaviour. Discussing real-life situations like sharing and cooperation in group projects teaches them about fairness and teamwork.
  • Building Character: Students learn the importance of empathy and respect towards others' feelings and viewpoints, which are crucial traits for personal and professional relationships in the future.

These lessons will equip students with the tools to act responsibly and considerately as they grow and face more complex life situations.
